The total site is over 14,000 Acres or two by two miles - in other words it is huge for an urban park. As a group, we devised an overlapping strategy of identity specific islands with unique and juxtaposing program that defines the essence of Los Angeles. This strategy takes advantage of the reality that the park may have to be phased in over decades in an ad-hoc manner. Since the park needs to finance itself, we also proposed a branding of the park as 100% Los Angeles. Specifically grouped into categories such as, Made in L. A., Eat in L. A., As seen in L. A., Stay in L. A. and Play in L. A. to define areas of program and enhance the marketability and image of the park. The studio critics nominated this project for the Harvard GSD Studio Works publication.
